Those of you familiar with the scene will certainly have heard of DJ Cactushead. He’s had major club residencies, playing up and down the country and across the world. Due to be launched at Electrowerkz on 13 March 2026, Honey Honey is Cactushead’s first promotional adventure since the cult PiE&MASH night at the Vauxhall Griffin fifteen years ago. QX caught up with Cactushead to find out more about his latest venture in clubland.
You’re a well-known face on the LGBTQ+ and bear scene. When and where did you arrive on the London scene?
Exact date lost in the sands of time, although I have early memories of being taken to some wild Soho dives in the late 80’s by older men, fun times! I definitely remember walking into Popstarz at The Bell in the mid-90s and being blown away by this new world of punky britpop and liberated young queers.
As a DJ, music producer, and promoter, what do you love most about your career?
Music is in my blood; it drives every fibre of my being. The music I make is a true reflection of my soul, and I love the thrill of playing music; my hair stands on end when people have a good time because of anything I have ever done. Music brings us together, and seeing our gay families bond and support each other proves that music really is the answer.
When did you start promoting club nights?
Back in the noughties, I ran a little pub night called PiE&MASH at the Vauxhall Griffin, playing pop and underground music, serving actual pie and mash and watching as hundreds of people made firm friendships, danced on the pool table and had shots squirted into their mouths from sauce bottles!
Tell us about your latest project, Honey Honey, and what is the inspiration behind it?
We want to create a warm, welcoming night for our community, which promotes a kindness-first culture but doesn’t mess around. We want lovely people to be able to let loose and have fun, no matter their shape, background or experience on the scene. A chance to build friendships with both a space to chat and a space for a damn good boogie.
What kind of crowd do you hope to attract, and what vibe are you aiming for?
We’re casting our net wide, inviting cubs, daddies, chubs, chasers, and, of course, their friends and admirers. We want to celebrate all of our beautiful bodies in a liberated space full of fun and surprises, slapped hard with the message: SPREAD IT THICK. We’ve got so much lined up for the night – from candy floss to speciality cocktails – and just wait until you hear about our Honey Bears!
What is the music formula for Honey Honey?
My signature blend of commercial house, singalong hits, classic and modern hits and a slapping of tech house. It’s all about giving people plenty to recognise and plenty to discover while ensuring that the night is a dance voyage across the seas. Four to the floor, please.
Could you share who will be playing or performing on the night?
You’ll have me spinning my signature joyous sound, of course. I’m really proud to be joined on the night by Manchester’s Choke On My Pronouns and London’s hunky Tuffcub.
Why did you choose Electrowerkz as your venue?
It’s such an incredible venue and team, and they never seem to stop working on how to make it even better! We love their friendly staff and the swift service they deliver across their bars and coat check. We’ll be focusing on the Courtyard (which is the heartbeat of Electrowerkz) to bring the community together. It’s paired with their new Hawkstone Beer Super Bar, what a treat!
What else do you have planned for 2026?
I’m getting married to my soulmate and the most beautiful man ever. How on earth did that happen? And of course, I’m going to put my heart and soul into building Honey Honey into a lasting, resonant night, as well as playing in all sorts of other interesting places. Just keep me busy, I don’t know how to relax.
