Established in 1981, the Two Brewers has long been a cornerstone of London’s LGBTQIA+ scene. The venue’s latest transformation aims to preserve the character and community spirit that have made it so popular, while creating refreshed spaces and experiences for a new generation of guests.
The most noticeable change is the venue’s striking deep red exterior, replacing its former black frontage. Inside, both main areas have undergone extensive renovations, each designed to offer a distinct atmosphere.

The front bar has been given a vibrant makeover, with rich red and purple tones creating a welcoming setting throughout the day and into the evening. The layout has also been opened up, with new seating and a rebuilt performance stage featuring interchangeable backdrops to support the venue’s renowned cabaret programme.
Meanwhile, the back room has been transformed into a dedicated club space, with much of the refurbishment investment focused on an immersive new lighting system designed to enhance club nights and special events.

The refreshed venue has already received a positive response, with strong footfall throughout its first week following reopening and guests embracing the new look.
Oliver Blatherwick, General Manager at Two Brewers, told QX: “We’re incredibly proud to welcome guests back to the Two Brewers following this investment. Our aim was never to change what makes this venue so special, but to evolve it for the future while celebrating its incredible cabaret heritage and importance to London’s LGBTQIA+ community.
“Guests have loved the new look so far, particularly the transformed club space and lighting, and it’s been wonderful to see familiar faces returning alongside new visitors discovering us for the first time.”

Alongside the refurbishment, Two Brewers has introduced a new £5 Happy Hour, running Monday to Friday from 5 pm to 9 pm. The venue is also continuing to build relationships with local LGBTQIA+ organisations and community groups, while maintaining its popular weekly quiz hosted by Sheila Simmonds.
Oliver added: “This investment demonstrates a commitment to the future of the Two Brewers and its place at the heart of the community. We’re excited to see our performers make the most of the new stage, welcome even more guests through our doors and continue delivering the cabaret, club nights and sense of belonging that people know and love us for.”

Stonegate Group has funded the Two Brewers’ refurbishment as part of its ongoing investment in its pub estate. The project reflects the group’s commitment to enhancing guest experiences while supporting the long-term success of established community venues.
For the Two Brewers, the transformation represents more than a fresh coat of paint. It is an investment in the future of a much-loved LGBTQIA+ institution, ensuring it can continue to provide a home for cabaret, nightlife and community connection in Clapham for years to come.
The Two Brewers is located at 114 Clapham High St, London SW4 7UJ, United Kingdom.
