Berlin Cabaret includes comedy, chansons and even a bit of Shakespeare. For one night only, an unforgettable duel between two forces at Crazy Coqs. Mark tells us more.
Think You Know Cabaret? Think Again.
Cabaret has a bad rep. It’s often perceived as edgy, spectacular and safe. And while there is a time and place for that, our show is none of these things. It’s dangerous, poetic and ugly. Our show, Berlin Cabaret, is born from Berlin’s rich tradition of cabaret, spanning from the 1920s to the present day, a legacy shaped by political and societal repression. It is queer and rebellious. It brings the sexy and sophisticated world of Berlin’s tradition of anti-establishment entertainment to the London stage.
What happens when a Ringmaster meets an Anarchist?
We always rely on our unique dynamic: Jack is a seasoned entertainer and world-class pianist, born in Manchester and now famous in Berlin. Mark is an Oxbridge-educated actor and writer with French, German, and Indonesian roots. Jack brings the laughs, Mark the drama. But at heart, our dynamic isn’t about thier ability to nail Sondheim or Piaf or Weill, but about the risk of freedom.
A Living Show
Every Berlin Cabaret show features a different, challenging theme, ranging from the poisoning of a cup of tea to the exploration of grief. Our show, obsessed with the truths of a difficult world, is often brutal, mostly hilarious and always profoundly human. For our fourth outing to Crazy Coqs, we’re exploring the theme of change through the lens of time, turning the intimate circular space at Brasserie Zedel into the inside of a tree. We embody the winds of time and the changing of seasons, and how these interact with our mortality.
The Risk of Freedom
What is the risk of freedom? Breaking the rules, falling off the edge, losing the audience. Chaos and the collapse of sense. But the reward is even greater. Something true and unexpected, a rarity in our prepackaged attention economy.
Berlin Cabaret is on Friday, 3 October 2025, 7:00pm, at Crazy Coqs, Brasserie Zédel, 21 Sherwood St, London W1F 7ED, United Kingdom.
