Kicking things off is the Queer Wandsworth exhibition (3 February – 21 February at BAC; 4 February – 28 February at Wandsworth Town Library). Our queer lives have always been part of Wandsworth. We have lived our lives in theatres and libraries, parks and prisons, night-time spaces and everyday neighbourhoods — even when hidden, criminalised or rarely recorded.

This exhibition examines how queer individuals have discovered a sense of belonging, creativity, and resilience throughout the borough. It highlights how power, protest, care, and pleasure have shaped queer experiences, focusing on stories remembered or overlooked. In addition to historic materials, the exhibition features a contemporary commission by artist Luca Bosani, who responds to three narratives from Wandsworth’s queer history.

“It has been extraordinary uncovering the queer history of this borough. From Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment here to today’s life-affirming community services and the unforgettable events held in some of Wandsworth’s world-class venues, Queer Wandsworth tells a powerful story of resilience, creativity and belonging.”

Nick Collinson, Queer Wandsworth Heritage Researcher and Curator

By grounding these histories in actual places and real lives, Queer Wandsworth encourages you to perceive the borough as a landscape shaped by connection, courage, and imagination.

The exhibition features a booklet celebrating Queer Wandsworth and an interactive map that lets online visitors explore 58 significant places, individuals, and stories that have shaped the queer history of Wandsworth. You can use either the map or the list view to uncover moments of community, creativity, protest, and everyday life throughout the borough.

The booklet is available here. And the interactive Map is available here: Queer Wandsworth Welcome to Wandsworth

“‘It’s so important that we recognise the contribution of queer history and culture to modern-day arts and entertainment. There are lots of things to do around the borough, and it is the perfect chance to try something new. The arts are an inclusive place, and we want to highlight that.”

Kemi Akinola, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Culture.

The ball will pay tribute to The Disney Channel and its golden era from the 90s to the 2000s.

Each category is inspired by an iconic show or Disney original movie that every Millennial and Generation X member grew up watching. This ball promises everything you’d expect from a top-tier event: fashion, runway, beauty, performance, realness, and, of course, VOGUE.

Wandsworth Green Plaque: Hanna and Patrick Barrington, 27 February 2026

Hanna was an activist, Patrick an artist, and their home was a haven to many. There will be an unveiling of the Green Plaque at 77 Dorothy Road at midday – open to all.

Hanna was born in Vienna. She was a communist activist and was arrested by the Nazis. An old boyfriend helped her reach Paris, and she eventually came to Britain. From her home at 77 Dorothy Road, she ran a wine bar – the Corkscrew. After the wine bar closed, Hanna took in lodgers through the LGBT telephone helpline Gay Switchboard. She was a passionate supporter of LGBT rights.

Patrick Barrington was born in Guyana. He came to Britain with a scholarship to study art at what is now Central St Martins. To make money, he trained as an engineer, but he continued to make art throughout his life, exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions in the 1970s. Many pieces of his work now reside in the National Gallery of Guyana.

Come and learn more about this extraordinary couple and their loving (if quarrelsome!) partnership. This plaque is generously funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

FREE2B

Community Bunting Project

As part of their 10th birthday celebrations, Free2B are creating a community bunting project featuring designs from their young people alongside heritage photos from the last ten years. A good number of young people have already submitted their designs, with more still to come, each one celebrating what our support means to them. They’re also collecting video messages from community members, past and present, to accompany the bunting, which show the impact Free2B has had over the last decade. The bunting will be used at relevant events (for example, Wandsworth Family Pride) at their safeguarded youth club venue, and we hope to partner with Wandsworth venues, such as Battersea Arts Centre, to display it. The videos will be used via Free2B’s website and social media as well as at relevant events (where screen/sounds facilities are available).
