QX focus: Sunday’s festivities with Wait… What? and Bona Vada Bingo …

Wait, What ? launched in Ibiza in 2019 and is a brand that comprises of club nights with a twist and spin off events such as Bona Vada Bingo. WW is a collective that centres around an ethos of inclusion and diversity for the LGBT, QTIPOC and wider queer community. This is represented within WW with a spectrum of fresh, new young talent alongside more established performers, from the UK and abroad, such as legendary house DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin and Hutch from Hoxton Whores. They are not just DJs, they have an expanding roster of drag queens and drag kings, dancers and cabaret artists.

Since its inception, WW has been on an upward trajectory and the latter half of 2021 and into 2022 is seeing WW move from strength to strength, with bookings for Boogaloo Weekender, parties at the iconic Pikes Hotel Ibiza for Ibiza Pride, and a Carry on Camping Festival confirmed, along with a monthly residency at its birthplace, Sunrise Bar in Ibiza. There’s even a new residency at Bristol’s Cock and Tail Bar, which follows on from the monthly Summer 2021 events, Bona Vada Bingo and Fun Factory, both at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol. 

July and August 2021 saw Bona Vada Bingo being featured at Pikes Ibiza Weekend held at Marston Park in Frome, Somerset. They told QX, “Wait…  What? and Pikes had already established a good relationship when we held one of our extravagant day and night parties at Pikes in September 2020, featuring our resident DJs from Ibiza and the UK, along with our fabulous drag queens, our unicorn mascot, fantastic DJ sets, glitter, attitude and sparkles in abundance!

Bona Vada Bingo still carries on the WW party vibe, with drag queens and cabaret performers as hosts and bingo callers, Djs and dancers providing the entertainment. Each event has sponsors who have donated prizes, such as an original piece of artwork donated by legendary DJ Jon Pleased Wimmin, DJ lessons donated by Bristol nightclub Basement 45 and £100 tattoo voucher donated by No Regrets Tattoo Studio in Bristol.

This month sees Bona Vada Bingo and the WW family return to the next Pikes Weekend at Marston Park on 12th September. They run the Bona Vada Bingo from the Hideout Tent throughout the afternoon from 1.30pm followed by the WW party.
