05/05/13: Ah, 1992. Alan Shearer was in our wank bank, Whitney Houston was in The Bodyguard, and Ethel’s Willy was put down in Eastenders. It was also the year we danced in stone-washed denim to Angie Brown.
Angie took us back to the 90s and to Kazbar on Sunday night. Hearing her No 3 classic I’m Gonna Get You again after all this time, I could have been drinking Cinzano in tie-dye and twirling my ying-yang necklace.
Still looking good over two decades later, Angie’s vocals proved she was no one-trick pony and why her minor hit Playing With Knives has gone to become a club classic now.
The music didn’t stop after the grand dame took her bow either; DJ Paul Morrell laid on dance and pop to make the most of the balmy summer evening. Some were there to soak up the rays, some to soak up the 90s songstress, and others to soak up as much alcohol before hitting WE Party.
Whatever the reason, it was a fun night down in Clapham that has only gone and got us excited for Kazbar’s annual street party. Watch this space for the 2013 line-up…
