SUNDAY TEA DANCE 30TH ANNIVERSARY

29/05/11:QX checked out the East End action as BJ’s White Swan got hoofing for the 30th anniversary of its Sunday Tea Dance, with a Strictly Sunday spectacular last weekend. One of the capital’s most-loved gay boozers, this local landmark always draws in a diverse crowd for its classic ballroom bash. We might not have known the moves but we were more than happy to watch from the sidelines, as a colourful coterie of lovely laydeez and gorgeous guys joined transtastic trannies for a sensational soiree, which had the hot hoofers demonstrating their dancefloor skills in a flurry of fancy footwork. From samba to salsa by way of sequence and line dancing (to Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ no less!) DJ Gary Malden kept the party tunes coming through ‘til late in one of the most fun nights out we’ve had in ages. We only wish we’d had enough courage to take up one dashing gent’s gracious offer to teach us the cha cha. Still, there’s always next time!
