ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC

Facebook fan page DJs@Work returns with DJSWORK, their next hot club session, this time featuring two rising star DJs with two well-established scene names.

Promoter Chi ‘Matinales’ spoke to Cliff Joannou…

DJSWork has been growing slowly after a few events. Tell us about the concept of the night and how it started…

DJs@WORK was created in November 2010. The Facebook page is dedicated to all things house. I found there are so many DJs out there catering for our different tastes with their individual flairs that I thought why not form a collective and try and bring it all together. The DJs on the page are usually from what we hear on the London circuit, but the hand is also extended around the globe, with house music for you to listen to, share, download and for the members to give their feedback.

The page is really a forum to share podcasts and sets like, and emphasis is on no advertising, and being purely for house music! Look out for the guest monthly podcasts with mini-interviews, too, and the monthly club nights in London and around Europe in 2013. Our motto: ‘Luv the house, luv the DJ, luv DJSWORK’!

The club night is an extension of this and the monthly podcasts, which is shared on podomatic and soundcloud platforms. So, basically, I am the promoter and Andrea Drudikova and Iryna Chavs are the hosts. Me and the girls have been clubbing on the scene for a while now, and thought I could bring it all together this way. Andrea has been helping a lot with both events, and naturally as she is well known so being host comes with it.

Tell us about the DJs on the night. Why did you choose them?

When I think of bringing the night together, I like to think as house music as constantly evolving, so when I see or hear a new DJ, I think why not get that out there as well as the headliners who are already doing it, too. I will always try to make [each event] different to cater for the different genres that house music has. So, as well as looking to hear new DJs, I think it’s also important to get to hear from DJs from across the globe, which is why I was dead chuffed to have Ben Manson from Paris play at the Birthday in November last year. For example, choosing the DJs [for the new night] ‘My House IS Your House’, my intention is to have a flow of Circuit to tech to deep to funky house beats.

And the venue, the Apothecary. What makes it so right for the party?

The Apothecary as a venue works really well as it’s so elegant, glitzy and the sound system is amazing.  It kind of reminds me of clubbing in the days of ‘Fiction’ when it was at Kings Cross with an outside area to chill for a minute from dancing!  On top of that, the staff are really friendly and make you feel welcome.

Finally, tell the readers why they should be at the next DJsWork event?

Quite simply ‘luv the house, luv the DJ, luv DJSWORK’ is the vibe we’re trying to achieve!

ZACH BURNS Top 3 DJSWORK TRACKS

1. ‘Heart Of Flesh’ (Original Mix) Technasia
Amazing, amazing, amazing track. I Never get bored of this one as it always sounds fresh every time. Perfect funky tech house.

2. ‘Work It’ (Castel, Iamlopez Remix) David Penn, DJ Chus
Many great remixes of this track but this is the most uplifting and fun, especially when the beat really kicks in.

3. ‘This Is True House’ (Original Mix) David Amo, Rober Gaez
A darker track for the night, but with a very original and underground deep/techno sound. A strong bass line that will surely vibrate around Apothecary. DJs at work is about house music, real house music and this track cements that fact!

XAVI LOPEZ 3 Top 3 DJSWORK TRACKS

1. ‘La Marmota’ (Sergi Nisa & Miki Hernandez) Fran HF& Jose Sosa
One of those baselines that once it kicks in you can’t stop dancing.

2. ‘Partenza!’ DJ Chus, Pablo Ceballos, & Marlon D
Well, coming from these artists there’s not much to add. Tribal, dark, acid, hypnotic… love the Iberican sound

3. ‘Toca Bunda’ (Dani Masi & Diego Medina Private Mix) Mastiksoul & Gregor Salto
I love the energy and rhythm of this track, one of my secret weapons.
