14/05/11: As Shoreditch went all commercial and trendy, Dalston Superstore opened in an unlikely venue in the middle of a parade of shops on Kingsland High Street, and was an immediate hit.
With concrete walls, exposed pipes, flashes of neon and graffiti, you could be forgiven for thinking you are in an impromptu lock-in in a temporary NY dive bar, but two years on and it is now quite possibly the most hip and happening venue in the area. We rocked up last Saturday for the club’s 2nd birthday bash and found John Sizzle working the upstairs decks with party tunes and retro gold, while downstairs the Lovely Jonjo (and he really is!) and Jeffrey Hinton played to a packed steamy basement. Drag lovelies worked the room, quirky Hoxtonites feigned indifference and the rest of us just revelled in the fabulous party atmosphere. Sick!
