24/09/16: There was a distinct Iberian whiff in the air as we made our way up the stairs to Club Kolis (above the Archway Tavern in…well… Archway).
For its third edition in London (there’s also been two in Berlin), Lady Olé was treating us to a generous helping of Blond Ambition, a high energy “diva-off” between Madonna and the Spanish Queen of Pop, Marta Sanchez.
Punters were invited to select an era, a music video and come dressed up as either of their favourite diva (other blond leading ladies were welcome and available).
Sexy, dark hidalgos and fabulous mariquitas and maricones of all kinds had responded to the call with unbridled enthusiasm.
The already electric mood, fuelled by the cheesiest pop tunes from guest DJ Tay Arin and residents Soy Larga and Alejandro Asencio, went into sybaritic overdrive when the Five Madonnas got on stage to somehow deliver their delirious and impertinent homage to the Material Girl, complete with Frozen raven and shambolic “cape fail”.
Trashy drag at its most chaotic and fun with more than a zest of southern flavour. ¡Ay qué precioso, niña!
