THE HIDDEN BEAR

Bear Necessity is moving to a new home at Hidden in Vauxhall this weekend! QX speaks to Bear Necessity host, Andy Garcia, to get the low down…

Bear Necessity is on the move! Why did you feel the need to relocate?

We have been doing BN in the same place for more than a year and half now, and although we love the old location, we felt it was time to give Bear Necessity a new feel and a fresh start. Hidden Club is perfect for our purposes, with three rooms, a dark room, a gorgeous outdoor area and best of all, it’s in Vauxhall. This keeps Bear Necessity as accessible as before, but with a new updated atmosphere. I am sure everyone will love it!

So, what makes Hidden the right venue for the club?

Hidden Club has a hot underground feel that adds an element of sexiness to Bear Necessity, which is something I personally love in clubs. The set up is brilliant as parts of the venue need discovering and are not necessarily obvious. This offers very interesting traffic for the crowd as it’s not possible to get bored in that place. Hidden Club has three different rooms, and we intend to utilise each and every one of them.

What will each room feature?

Expect the usual BN sound, a mix of progressive house with density, in the main room. The second room will have a high energy house sound while the third room will be reserved for funky disco tunes perfect for catching up with mates, chilling, having a drink, chat and a cruise.

Are you not afraid of being compared to ‘other’ bear clubs that have been in the venue before? What does Bear Necessity offer that’s different?

BN at Hidden will have a completely different layout to events that have gone before. We are committed to give each room a new and fresh feel by adding extra sound and light. Let me tell you – after the 5th November, Hidden will be branded Bear Necessity!

In that case, what extras can we look forward to on the 5th November?

This will be a special edition of BN, not just because we are moving to our new home, but we are collaborating with the biggest bear weekend in Europe, Mad Bear in Madrid, and we’re flying in their biggest DJ, BINOMIO, to spin the main room. It’ll be amazing – a taste of Madrid in the heart of London. Don’t forget that London bears have a love affair with Madrid and the city will be packed with British meat over the weekend of 9-10th December!

“Hidden will have a completely different layout to events that have gone before.”

Will you taking a regular monthly slot or holding occasional, special parties?

Bear Necessity will be at Hidden on a regular basis! We are planning something big for December, but you’ll have to watch this space to find out more, but it’s going to be major!

• Bear Necessity is at Hidden (100 Tinworth Street, SE11 5EQ) on Saturday 5th November, 10pm-6am. See Musts & Maybes for venue details and door taxes.
