Bastards is the big new night that takes over Eagle London every month. Check it out this Saturday night when they go all Halloweeny on yo’ ass with a ‘Bloody Bastards’ theme – it had to happen. Cliff Joannou speaks to resident DJ and promoter Wes DB

Bastards! What’s it all about, innit?

Bastards is a fun party for everyone. We think that the gay scene is very segregated at the moment and the idea is to bring everyone back together, gays, lesbians, straights, trans, bears, twinks, etc, to a soundtrack of quality house, techno and disco. The idea is to provide a fun and relaxed environment where people can let loose and have a bloody good time. We had our first party last month, which went really well. The crowd was very mixed and seemed to love what we were doing so the Eagle is now our home on the first Saturday of every month. We also make a big effort with the decorations. Last month we had a Twin Peaks theme. A particular highlight was Lucious Flajore firing smoke out of her pussy.

And the music?

The DJs at Bastards are Jon Delano, Lucious Flajore and Wes DB. We are focusing on proper house music, techno and disco but that’s not to say you won’t hear the odd wonky pop record or synth pop oddity. No Rihanna remixes here though.

The name is inspired! Where did it come from… what’s the deep meaning?

The name. Well basically Wes sounds like the Mel B character from Bo Selecta. He said it and it stuck. You complete set o’ Bastards y’ are!

Who is the biggest bastard in the world right now?

I would say Putin or ISIS but there isn’t even a word for them. They are beyond Bastardly. It would have to be David Cameron.

Who is the greatest Bastard in the world? As in a Bastard we love…

Renee Zelwegger’s face.

Tell us about your Halloween event…

We are making a huge effort with the decorations and costume is highly encouraged – the bloodier the better. There’s a prize for the best costume and we’ve already seen some good ones so you better turn it out! The soundtrack will be haunted house, terrifying techno and deadly disco. We are also setting up the Slaughter House cinema where we’ll be showing the goriest video nasties and the creepiest horror movies. There’ll also be an element of performance at this month’s party but we aren’t giving too much away about that.

Top 5 BASTARD Tunes

  1. Trus’ Me – ‘I Want You’ (Alan Fitzpatrick Remix) (Prime Numbers Records)
Deep house done proper with a hint of Basic Channel tubbiness about it. Anthem!
  2. DJ Fett Burger & Luca Lozano – ‘Totally Tangerine’ (Sex Tags UFO)
Deep house meets early 90’s rave! This one really works… it’s a belter.
  3. D.J Lil Tal – ‘Mandrake’ (Dance Mania)
Crazy looped-up disco house. Proper floor filler.
  4. Throbbing Gristle – ‘Hot On The Heels of Love’ (Industrial Records/Mute)
Industrial synth from 1979 that still stands up in a club today. So ahead of its time it’s scary!
  5. Adonis – ‘No Way Back’ (Trax Records)
    The ULTIMATE acid house ANTHEM!
