There’s a brand new 750 capacity gay venue opening in Central London

Brand new gay venue opening in central london

The myth that London’s gay scene is dying has been well and truly quashed this week, with the news that CIRCA THE CLUB will be opening next door to Embankment Station later this Spring.

It follows the recent opening of the Cock Tavern in Kennington, and the launch of brand new LGBT nights like Versayce, Shutdown and SOS.

The people behind it own Circa, the slick Central London gay bar that’s been a hub of the Soho scene since it opened in 2011.

They’ve pulled off the impressive achievement of securing a 750 capacity zone 1 venue with a late license, Hungerford House. Built in 1900, it was originally a power station. Up until recently, they traded as an underwhelming straight venue named Opal Bar.

CIRCA THE CLUB will provide a much-needed large club space for city centre partiers.

Owner and founder of CIRCA Alan Winter said; “After working on the London gay scene for over a decade and witnessing its slow decline I am very proud and excited that CIRCA is here to say that the London LGBTQ+ scene is far from over!”

“We look forward to giving our community a sparkling new space that’s safe, stylish and most importantly FUN!”

“The Mayor and I are clear that LGBT+ venues are a fundamental part of London’s vibrant nightlife and culture,” said London’s Night Czar Amy Lamé. “Over the past decade the capital has lost more than half of its LGBT+ venues, which is why I’ve been tasked with stemming the flow of closures across the city.”

“I’m delighted that Hungerford House will soon be throwing open its doors as London’s newest LGBT+ venue – I can’t wait to visit!”

See you there, Amy! Ours is an Aperol Spritz.
