Bank Holiday Weekend at the RVT

We dive into the goings on this bank holiday weekend at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern

Schlager Divas: Road to Rotterdam

Friday 23rd August

Their policy is simple, kinder and ken dolls. Playing only Eurovision national finalists and Euro-adjacent tracks, with the obvious exception of UK entries because, you know, why would you subject yourself to that? Brough to the hallowed hall that is the Tavern by purveyors of pop Push the Button, this evening will have you seeing stars, in a circle, on a blue background. Why does that sound familiar? Buckle your sphincters ready for five back-to-back hours od nothing but Eurovision hits! A special eye will be cast on the women hailing from Europe’s expensive, cold northern countries.

10pm – 3am. £8.14 tickets available at VauxhallTavern.com.

Duckie

Saturday 24th August

A living, breathing legend. No one does queer heritage quite like Duckie. Welcoming performers, artists and everything in between to their stage pushing the limits of social acceptability and good taste. Turning the ripe old age of twenty one this year, they’ve sipped the magic elixir of Death Becomes Her fame and just. Won’t. Die.

9pm – 4am. £5 before 10:30pm, £8 after.

Sunday Social

Sunday 25th August (duh)

You’re liver isn’t ready for this 12-hour rager. Serving you a dozen decedent hour of libations and tantelising entertwatment, the tavern have your end of week wiggle sorted. From 3pm, or round about the time you peel yourself up out of bed, the Tavern doors are open, pouring pints and a friendly welcome. Then at the very specific time of 5:45pm, Tanya Hyde takes to the stage to terrorise the locals with her meandering musings on the state of things. She’s followed by damsel of the downtrodden Tracy La Bouche at 6:30pm, always one to liven up a joint and, well, light up a joint. Taking to the decks will be RVT staple Simon Le Vans, joined by cuties Adam Turner, Phil Marriott and Chris Brogan.

3pm – 3am. £5 for members, £8 for non-members.

RVT Sports Day

Monday 26th August

Cast those memories of public humiliation in secondary school OUT of your mind. This Sports Day is one you’ll enjoy, and an ashamed father needn’t come near it. The fabulous Timberlina hosts this day of purse throwing and drag relay, raising funds for the vital GMTA, the gay men’s health project and OutLife who provide health and life advice for LGBTQ+ folks. Thrown together with the help of HERO, this is a fun day out that’s sure to chase away that Monday hangover.

1pm – 5pm.

Bank Holiday Monday

Monday 26th August (duh)

Miss Jason helms this summer’s last bank holiday Monday bash. She’s the matron on the ward of patrons nursing their hangovers, but don’t expect her to kiss it better. The most you can hope for is a wink and a nudge off your bar stool. She’s been sharpening her talons all weekend long, so be sure to watch your back when you’re heading for that toilet break. Behind the decks will be BeefMince’s Silverhook and Australian import djmikeyb (that’s not us slamming the keyboard, we promise), along with surgically stuck to the decks of the RVT Simon Le Vans.

2pm – 11pm. Free for members, £5 for non-members.
