8 bizarre moments from 73 Questions With Olivia Colman

The single-shot, rapid-fire Vogue interview has become an internet phenomenon. Each instalment reaches hundreds of thousands of views within hours with culture’s most prominent figures answering zany questions alongside philosophical quandaries in a non-stop 10-15 minute video. Since this month has actress and farting darling Olivia Colman gracing the coverVogue magazine couldn’t help but have her take part.

Set in an impressive manor house, the walls splashed in ornate hand-painted scenes between pillars of marble, a darkly dressed Colman gives her two farthings. She plays the lady of the house, casually lulling around the place, gracefully descending the stairs, ahead of an elaborate dinner taking place that evening. Because this is lady Colman, things get pretty freaky from the get-go. Living up to her fumbling, bumbling personality, the regal and raucous actress gives us everything we ever wanted.

Here are some highlights:

8. William the Butler

“Just a simple cup of tea would be lovely. Thank you, William.”

7. THE OTHER TWO

When asked which TV show she’s binge-watching, Colman throatily and emphatically replies “The Other Two” before scuttling down a grand set of stairs.

6. She pooed in a cupboard.

No, not in the actual video though we wouldn’t put it past her. It was when she was only three. But the fact that answer was so readily deployed, and with so much joy suggests that it’s a memory that she fondly recalls. Often.

5. An awkward Peep Show question

“Does this POV-style interview remind you of your Peep Show days?” The interviewer clearly would never have seen the show unless he was prepping for the interview. Colman’s reacts accordingly, again scuttling away as fast as she can, though not answering the question. Perhaps a memory from some other type of POV filming flashed across her mind.

4. “Boob tubes”

It’s hard to put into words the shadow of shame and regret that flashes across Colman’s face when recounting a trend she regrets trying. After uttering those fateful words, she guiltily folds in her lips like a dog that’s been caught eating its own vomit.

3. A fake phone call on an antique phone

Of course, Olivia only accepts phone calls on her brass candlestick telephone. As an adorable interlude to the interview, the actress answers a call from her mother who wants to bring along ten folks to that evening’s dinner.

2. “Look at me, I’ve come back in time.”

Exactly what you’d tell your 16-year-old self if you could go back in time. As if winning an Oscar wasn’t enough, her next accomplishment will be beating time and space. Have we ever had an Oscar-winner begging to be the next Doctor Who before?

1. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a tiny little hairy man

When asked about her work on the seminal Fleabag Olivia, after calling her character “total cunt”, she said that if the roles were reversed and she had to think up a character for Waller-Bridge, she’d make her a “tiny little hairy man”. We’d like to imagine this as an upcoming Oscar-bait dark comedy, the little hairy man’s struggle with encountering his world an allegory of the inner-rages of modern man.
