Pride in London has just joined the plethora of festivals and public gatherings worldwide announcing cancellations and postponements over the coming months.
Originally scheduled for the last week of June, with the main Pride In London parade and Trafalgar Square event set for Saturday 27th June, the celebration has now been postponed, with a view to it taking place later in the summer.
“It is with a heavy heart that Pride in London is announcing the postponement of the Parade and associated events that were due to take place on Saturday 27th June 2020, with a new date to be announced in due course,” reads a statement on Pride In London’s official website.
“We’ve been working closely with the Greater London Authority and have their support in taking this decision,” say Pride in London co-chairs Alison Camps and Michael Salter-Church. “We’re also currently working with key partners including Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police Service, TfL and London Fire Brigade to look at the possibility of another date.”
“We fully appreciate the pressures and effects that the current situation is having on all of our communities. Allyship is needed more than ever, so we ask everyone to continue to be kind, loving and generous. We thank you for your patience and understanding in these difficult times and will continue to update you moving forwards.”
Other key events on the UK’s queer social calendar like Mighty Hoopla and Brighton Pride have stated that while they are not yet cancelling or postponing, they are keeping a close eye on the situation as it develops.
