Queer Cowboys is a semi-autobiographical play about Freddie, a resident of Oklahoma new to their transgender identity, who combats loneliness by embarking on a mission to discover their “transistors”. In the process, they excavate two true forgotten stories of the Old West: Harry Allen and Little Joe Monahan, two transgender cowboys.

With beloved country jams performed by a live band, the true stories of these two transgender cowboys are not just told but brought back to life with a vibrant energy that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Queer Cowboys makes its debut at the King’s Head following a successful world premiere at Wilton’s Music Hall in 2022. Written and performed by West End star and aspiring cowboy Freddie Love (known for Just For One Day and But I’m a Cheerleader), this production, a long-time collaboration with the King’s Head, uses a combination of gig-theatre, verbatim theatre, and cabaret to do justice to the cowboys.

Musical Director Olivia Zacharia brings together the talents of Freddie Love (vocals), Migdalia Van Der Hoven (drums), and Ross McTeague (guitar & keys) to perform all your favourite country songs with a gay twist. Or perhaps these songs were always gay?

Director Charles Quittner, Assistant Director Elliot Aitken, Set Designer George Jones, and Prop Designer Eden Tredwell are working together to create a poignant and campy show for an evening of campfire entertainment. The show will feature an original theme song written by Eden Tredwell and produced by Yasmin Mehboob-Khan.

Queer Cowboys runs at The King’s Head Theatre from 1 – 4 August,  Islington Square, 116 Upper St, The Angel, London N1 1AB, United Kingdom
