The Well Hung Art Exhibition is an important collection of the LGBTQAI+s artistry, confidence and creative expression.
The organisers present a comprehensive exhibition of young artists as well as established names using many mediums from all areas of our queer community. With artists from across the United Kingdom, there are also artists from Italy, Germany, Syria, Ukraine, Hungary and Hong Kong.
The brief was to create a celebration of the queer community where artists could represent themselves however they wanted to present their art. There was no strong or firm direction. With contributions from over forty artists offering works from photography to graphics to collage, ceramics, and sculpture. Art is worked in various materials, including wool and felt.
The Well Hung Art Exhibition catalogue is available from 1 June £15.00 plus postage.
Portrait Of Maisie Trolette
Artist Bari Goddard spoke to QX about the sitting he had with Maisie Trolette in 2012. The image features in The Well Hung Art Exhibition.
“I was invited as official photographer for the Sussex Beacon Gala Dinner in Brighton in November 2012 where, amongst a host of celebrities attending the event, I photographed David Raven aka Maisie Trollette. Being a huge fan and having seen him perform countless times, I was immediately put at ease when he waltzed in with the opening line ‘Hello Bari darling, it’s fucking freezing out there, now where do you want me?’
“There followed 25 minutes of sheer joy as he regaled me with some very dirty celebrity stories. He was a superb sitter for the photos, totally professional, needed no direction at all and he loved being photographed. I shot only 30 images and chose this as the best because he had just told me something very naughty about Paul O’Grady which made me howl with laughter as I knew Paul very well. This photo captures the glint in his eye as he delighted in my reaction to that story. A wonderful man, a superb entertainer, I wish I had gotten to know him better.”
