The team at Gaydar.net have been geeking out over some spreadsheets – analysing global industry trends and bringing us insights about the highs and lows of dating men.

One thing that the data shows us is that there’s never any real “downtime” when it comes to dating and hook-ups – guys are looking to connect with other guys throughout the year.

But the analysis does reveal some significant spikes in dating activity at particular points in the year.

The early weeks of January each year consistently see a surge in activity across dating platforms. The likely driver of that is all of the New Year’s resolutions we make as we hard-launch ourselves into a fresh year.

While some of that enthusiasm begins to soften as January drags on, our libidos kick back in as Valentine’s Day looms in February. Even though we all know that Valentine’s Day is capitalism gone rogue, being relentlessly bombarded by “love wins” marketing campaigns clearly has some impact.

The period surrounding Easter sees another peak of online dating activity. It’s probably the combination of holidays, chocolate, and travel, or maybe it’s the full moon doing its work. We don’t need to overthink it – it’s a time of year when more guys will be online and looking for action.

Unsurprisingly, the warmer months have everyone turning up the heat as the sizzling sidewalks sizzle with Summer sensuality.

The data indicates that it’s particularly the months of July and August when higher-than-average numbers of guys are online, sending DMs, arranging hook-ups, and connecting with each other to find the kind of intimacy and encounters that they’re looking for.

It’s possibly the boost of Vitamin D that’s kicking our libido into overdrive but we don’t need to get too hung-up on the science. This is a time of year when the weather is warm, we’re all wearing less clothes, and our bodies are letting us know that we’re in heat – literally!

Further down the line, the festive period across Christmas and New Year sees a big surge in dating activity. You might think that everyone would be too caught up in family celebrations to have much time or energy to focus on dating, but the numbers don’t lie. Maybe we’ve all got a bit

more time on our hands as the world effectively shuts down for a few days, or maybe we’re just looking for a distraction from family drama. Anecdotally, we seem to see a lot of guys returning to their hometown for the holidays, keen to check out the dudes they went to school with and the suburban dads that fuelled their fantasies.

With all of that research under your belt, remember that the biggest takeaway from all of the data is that there is no downtime – guys are pretty much always on the lookout, always open to meeting new people, always up for a bit of fun.

Put the technology to work, fire up your Gaydar, and get amongst it!
