The entertainment industry’s award season kicked off last week, but if you think the highlight of the season is The Oscars, you’re way off. Right here, on our very doorstep, The Hoist presents Mr Hoist 2012 – the only contest you need to know about, and the only title worth fighting for. If you haven’t already registered, Mr Hoist’s host Unkut Kurt tells Brent Black why the 2012 contest on Saturday is the only one that matters!

So, the Mr Hoist Contest – the ‘Oscars’ of the gay fetish world – what is it all about and why is it so big?

Simple. It is the biggest gay fetish contest in the world. When I say biggest, it means we have more hot men competing and the biggest prize money of any contest. I mean, where else could you pocket a cool £500 for showing off your sexy bulge to a very friendly audience of guys? It’s a blast and it is by far the best, horniest and most fun night out of the year – just like the Oscars only without the bad hair and make up.

It celebrates its 15th year with this contest – how will this contest be bigger and better than in previous years?

This year is the 15th anniversary of Mr Hoist and, because of that, we thought we’d put on an extra sexy, extra fun, extra juicy show. We have ‘International Mister Leather’ John Pendal MC’ing the contest. John is a Hoist regular who first won the Mr Hoist contest and later the prestigious title ‘International Mister Leather’ in Chicago. The Hoist is very proud of him and all the good stuff John has done over the years for charities. Plus, we have a dozen super-sexy leather and rubbermen from Stockholm flying in just for the contest night. I have seen some of their profiles and man, I am already creaming my leather pants!

How does the voting process work?

Simple. The audience will vote for the winner. No judges, no fussing around.

You’re limiting Mr Hoist to 10 contestants – Can anyone enter? How do you narrow it down to 10 if you get more registering?

Yes, anyone can enter. And it will be first come first served. We limit it to ten contestants so the contest doesn’t take longer than 20 minutes. After all, the boys wanna explore our amazing wet area and brand new cruise maze afterwards. By the way, it is not only leather or rubber. It is also sports-kit fetish, skinheads, men in uniform or skater boys that can enter….

Cool, any advice, tips or warnings to potential contestants? Anything they should know before signing up?

Enjoy yourself! And wear something you feel good and sexy and confident in. Most importantly, you don’t need to be a muscle bunny to enter. It is a fetish contest so to have a good personality and some wit will go a long way. I promise you: you will have a wonderful time. And MC John Pendal knows how to make you feel good on stage.

Any scandalous or funny stories to share from previous competitions?

Loads! I am actually thinking about doing a kiss-and-tell with a Sunday tabloid… only kidding. My favourite was the winner that couldn’t resist wearing his new sash after the contest. He was very popular in the cruise maze and discovered that being the winner meant that all those sexy guys were suddenly coming on to him big time. One wanted to be tied-up while the winner had to keep the sash on.

Other than the huge £500 prize and the title and, of course, the attention that comes along with it, the winner has the chance to enter International Mr Leather in Chicago…

The Hoist has over the past 15 years sent lots of Mr Hoist winners to Chicago in May to represent the UK at IML. We have come fourth three times and John Pendal won the contest back in 2003. That was fantastic and The Hoist is the only European fetish bar that ever won this title.

Does the winner keep the sash for the year, or does it get kept clean and dry, out of harms way?

The winner keeps the sash. We encourage him to use it as well! After all, it is made by Fetish Freak’s Richard – the leather tailor to the stars. And it is fully wipeable, if you know what I mean…
