27/08/13: The bawdy bar whores of QX Towers hot-footed it along to Marble Arch and one of London’s longest-running gay boozers as the Quebec drew in the punters for a night of top-class cabaret and more last Tuesday.
A legendary bar on the gay scene, serving the community for longer than there has even been a gay scene, this local landmark never disappoints, with two floors of refreshments and entertainment keeping the place bustling throughout the week.
Live on stage and the always-fabulous Tiffaney Wells – resplendent as ever in a Bet Lynch beehive and matching clip-ons – played to the gallery like the trooper she is, executing a sharply-honed repertoire taking in standards and show tunes, not to mention enough sauce to put HP and Heinz out of business.
Featuring the sort of roof-raising belters to get us on our feet and baying for more, highlights included Dreamgirls and Bette Midler anthems, a storming take on Shirley Bassey’s ‘There’s No Place Like London’ and some hefty slices of forties Americana, all interspersed with Tiff’s risqué wit.
Meanwhile, the lass seemed to have taken a shine to QX photographer Joel, hauling him up on stage for a snog before bursting back into song as the shenanigans continued through ‘til the wee hours. The City of Quebec is open seven days a week for cabaret, karaoke, weekend DJ sessions and great drinks prices. Check it out!
