Review: Witchy Fun at Scarefest

The QX team takes on one of the UK’s most notorious Halloween experiences

Last Sunday Team QX headed over to deepest darkest Sussex for a spot of screaming. And Screaming we did…. MY GOD! If you’re of a weak disposition or a scaredy cat, this place is PERFECT for you and your friends…bwah ah ah ahhhh! by Steve Gregory

Set over acres of farmland at Tulleys Farm, each year they hold the annual Halloween Festival, Shocktober Fest! We didn’t know what quite to expect as we drove through the winding country roads. It was dark and damp, it had been raining so it was misty and murky and the trees seemed to encase the road leading up to the site, so it was even darker and more spooky!

We then turned into the farm, which had loads of well organised well-lit parking heading to the main gates, where we were greeted by huge pumpkin heads, and ghoulishly lit trees.

Once we walked in, we were really surprised, it’s a huge place! Rides, loads of food stands, a bar with a main square and a stage which had a band playing all evening. All the scare mazes were placed off from that, there were nine in total, all basically hitting every fear you’ve probably got – from clowns to witches, lunatics with chainsaws and indigenous forest people who are coming for your BLOOD!! Each maze took a good while to get round as you were sent in in groups of around 10… normally coming out the other end, out of breath, sweating and swearing. In one of the mazes you even had to wear a hood so you couldn’t see anything, only feel your way via a rope!

We still literally have no voice from all the screaming we did! Unlike some of the scare mazes we’ve been to in the past, Shocktober Fest gives real value, theres loads of scare mazes and even a ride on a Tractor for the Horror-Wood Hayride. Even when you’re not in a maze the place is dotted with street performers saying hello or making you jump!

When it’s really busy the lines go down quickly too and you get chance to get to go to multiple scare mazes in one visit, theres lots of places to eat, drink and spend a whole evening there. QX gives Shocktober Fest 5 stars – great value, fantastic friendly staff and the most fun we’ve had in a long long time! Highly recommended for this Halloween.
