15/07/11: QX rocked up to the Retro Bar for a frantic Friday night session as manager Lesley celebrated her birthday in style last weekend. One of the West End’s best-loved homo-hangouts, Retro Bar has long offered a leftfield take on bent boozing, drawing in a diverse crowd of guyz and galz with alternative tunes and decent drinks prices, not to mention a scintillating social vibe that just keeps ‘em coming back for more. We ensconced ourselves in the cosy upstairs bar, complete with a wall plastered in framed photos of pop, punk and new wave legends, before getting into the thick of things downstairs. We took in a barrage of twisted DJ action from performance collective Eat Your Heart Out, then drag terrorist Myra Dubois hit the decks for the early slot before handing over to Helen Noir and Nando, with more to come from head honcho Scottee. With part of the proceeds from the night going towards the crew taking their show to the Edinburgh festival, we wish the talented gang all the best. Many happy returns Lesley and good luck to Scottee and co!
