RVT: An Audience With…

19/03/15: Host Myra DuBois opened this unique event as only Myra can, in her wonderfully irreverent style: “We’re here raising money for Mildmay. The charity that brought Jason Reid back to life. Yeah, thanks for that..” Absolutely hilarious! You could tell from then it was going to be a good night…

Next up was the ever cheerful Topsie Redfern who wowed the crowd with her impressive vocal gymnastics and spirited snogging skills. All for charity of course. Kara Van Park and drag stalwart Bette Rinse made their RVT debut (It only took Bette just over 20 years) and both went down a storm. The former provided a miscellany of beautiful musical theatre numbers and the latter served up a masterclass in improvised repartee.

Onstage kissing was a running theme during the night and all three (EVEN Bette) puckered up, one after the other, to kiss a rather dishy audience member. The poor guy must have had glitter infused lips for the next few days.

The night concluded with a no-holds barred edition of ‘Drag Question Time’. Topics posed by the audience ranged from the light and frivolous to the political, which is where it all got very, very heated. Pure gold between Bette and Myra, who have rather differing political views. Definitely the highlight of the night, for the audience anyway.

In just a few hours, the good people of the RVT managed to raise £454.37 for Mildmay UK, with an added donation of £1000 coming in from a very generous person who couldn’t be there.

A huge thank you from me (Jason) to everyone who gave up their time to make the night such a great success and of course to all those who donated.
