ABSOLUTELY FABULETTES

With heels bigger than your boyfriend’s dick and hair higher than a Dubai erection, The Supreme Fabulettes are back with a brand new show.

Packed full of powerhouse vocals, Viva La Drag follows the story of the Fabulettes’ rise to fame. This time round, The Sugababes of drag have another new member, a new assistant and have replaced the Scottish lass with… Another Scottish lass.

Confused? Don’t be. Just sit back, relax and enjoy being transported to a world of glamour and slick performance. QX’s very own shady diva, Jason Reid, caught up with the cast this week…

Vicki Vivacious on… The New Show

“This new adventure is part of our journey to become a full production show. We’ll be embarking on a national tour from October 2013 for twelve months, so we have upped the ante to give people value for money. Previously our shows were a camp explosion of songs and costumes.

We’ve kept all that, but in Viva La Drag we now have a larger cast and we’re rehearsing extra hard to impress our fans.

“It’s very exciting because Stevie Stewart, our artistic director, and William Baker, the director of the show, have both worked with Kylie Minogue. For someone like me, who’s a lifelong Kylie fan that’s amazing. It’s like having one degree of separation!”

    Vanilla Lush on…. The Story

“Viva La Drag tells the true story (well mostly) of how the Fabulettes became the sparkling divas they are today. It’s a history – or her-story – of glamour and style, taking the audience on a fabulous trip through half a century of amazing girl-band music.

“For this Fabulettes venture we needed some new faces, so auditions were held and we’re very happy with the pickings. Portia de Fosse is an amazing dancer and Silver Summers can hit notes I didn’t even know existed.

Our director William Baker has been very smart in selecting a cast that all bring a unique personality – and set of skills – to the group. I never knew that being Dutch and dizzy was a skill but at my age I’m just happy with the work.”

Portia de Fosse on… Being The New Girl

“I got a call from the girls asking if I’d ever been in a threesome before and promptly told them, ‘of course I have’ so I fitted right into the big open slot that was waiting for me.

“I’m no stranger to treading the boards, or drag for that matter. I played Cagelle in La Cage aux Folles at the Menier Choclate Factory, and then I experienced three glorious years playing the part of Farrah/young Bernadette in Priscilla Queen of the Desert at The Palace Theatre. I guess you can say I’m typecast.

“Vanilla and Vicki are very accommodating – as I’m sure you’ve heard – so I fit ‘in’ pretty well! The only thing I haven’t fit into is the costumes as I’m 6’3”. Luckily Vanilla has been up all night sewing me some new ones.”

    Silver Summers on… The Songs

“By including mash-ups it means we can pick the best part of a song, hit our audiences hard, and then move onto the next song. This way the energy remains and people don’t quite know what to expect next.

“John Themis, who has been Boy George’s song writing partner for over twenty years, is our wonderful musical director, and George himself has written some of the original numbers in the show.

Their initial involvement came after our performance at last year’s World Pride in Trafalgar Square, when George saw us perform. It all just went from there. His song, ‘G.I. Josephine’, which we’ll be performing, is one of the highlights of the show.

“We squeeze plenty in, with tributes to The Supremes, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Abba, Sylvester and many more. I also do solo nods to Celine Dion and Rihanna. It’s a blast!”

    Sheila Simmonds on… Multitasking

“I’m the Supreme Fabulette’s spiritual advisor and drag mother. As well as being their wardrobe mistress/backstage assistant. I’m a very busy lady! I hail from Wooloomooloo in Australia, and this is my first job since being ‘let go’ from QVC – the less we talk about that the better.

There’s also been a rumour going around that I’m Vanilla’s long lost mother but until we get offered a slot on Jeremy Kyle offering us both a paternity test that rumour will have to keep circulating…”
