Jump Down the Rabbit Hole with Eagle London!

Vauxhall’s den of debauchery is going all out this bank holiday weekend

Batten the hatches, gird your loins, and spread your wings (in whichever order you like, go crazy!), because Vauxhall’s late-night homo disco Eagle London has a bumper schedule over this four-day Bank Holiday! They’ve got something mellifluously major on each night, so you could make like the Son of God himself and pop in on Thursday, only to emerge on Sunday in a disco-infused daze. It’s what he would’ve wanted. Probably.

The venue’s also had a jhuzz up, so we caught up with owner Mark Oakley to get the lowdown on the hoedowns!

Hey Mark! Are you looking forward to the first long weekend of the year?

Yes! Christmas seems like a far distant memory. But we’ve been working hard at Eagle London since, getting the venue shipshape and planning some really exciting events for the summer. Of course a Bank Holiday weekend is not a holiday for us, but I’m looking forward to a fantastic party weekend.

It all kicks off on Thursday with Record Box, what’s going to be happening?

Yeah, Record Box is our new Thursday night vinyl disco. The gorge Chris Sweet and Jill Brook have a vast collection of classic torch song sleaze disco vinyl and have a rummage through it every week. And being a Bank Holiday on Friday, we thought we’d stay open extra late till 3am for all our customers who won’t have to get up early the morning after. We’ll have some great Happy Hour drinks offers too…pop down for a shimmy and a Cinzano!

There’s a new night coming on Friday as well. What’s Versayce all about?

Versayce is a new monthly Friday night from the ‘U OK HUN?’ crew. We’ve enjoyed some fantastic Saturday nights with them, so we’re really excited about welcoming them to our Friday programme. DJs Nadine Artois and Chantelle Ayanna will be spinning a House/ R’n’B soundtrack and the venue’s gonna look amazing.

Cheer Up! are back on Saturday for a special Stock Aitken Waterman night. What’s your favourite SAW hit?

Divine’s ‘You Think You’re A Man’, of course! It’s no secret that I’m Divine’s number one fan and this track takes me back to when my Eagle co-founder, the late Paul Wilde, was Divine’s UK manager/promoter and produced those legendary shows at Heaven and The Hippodrome.

Bank Holiday Horse Meat Discos are always mayhem! What can people expect this Sunday?

Always! Horse Meat Disco’s still going strong after 14 years and this year will be no exception, with some fantastic international guest DJs lined up. This Easter Sunday, we welcome back Heidi Lawden from L.A. with HMD residents Luke Howard and Severino. And as always on a HMD Bank Holiday we’re open for an extra hour till 4am. We were hoping to launch our fabulous Garden Bar for the summer, but who knows what the weather will be like!

Eagle’s had a little bit of a makeover as well…

Oh, you’ve noticed our name up in lights?! Yes she’s an old lady, our Eagle, so we thought she’s earned a cosmetic reward. And it’s not just cosmetic; we’ve also invested heavily in sound insulating the venue inside and out. We haven’t finished yet, so watch this space! We’ve also refurbished our garden, making it good for another year of summer garden parties.

What other exciting things have you got planned for the summer?

Lots! Our monthly Saturday nights with Debbie, Rhythm Of The Night, Athena and our new soul night SOS are doing really well and we’re building new monthly Friday night parties too. Next Friday sees the launch of METRO, a new monthly Electro night with DJs Spatial Awareness and Michelle Manetti; I’m really excited to hear their electro sounds on our Funktion One sound system! Plus there are some very special one-off events in the pipeline. I’m just finalising details, so will have to keep them under my wig for the time being… dramatic Dynasty cliffhanger!
