Two Lasses Rum has launched a special limited edition PROUD bottle to celebrate Pride and help raise much-needed funds for Stonewall.
Founders Lindsey Harrison and Rebecca Allinson are proud to be partners in business and in life – and want to encourage more people to take pride in being themselves and living their lives as they want to.
Rebecca said: “We are very proud of who we are but that wasn’t necessarily always the case. When I came out 17 years ago I was embarrassed, I felt ashamed and worried what other people would think of me. This feeling went on for many, many years. For too long I would never refer to my partner as she or her, it was always them or they. I now feel much more comfortable with who I am, which is partly down to maturity but it’s also thanks to the amazing work of charities such as Stonewall. That’s why we wanted to help, both in raising some funds for Stonewall and in publicly taking pride in who we are.”
The beautifully designed bottle perfectly illustrates the joy the couple take in producing the rum they’re so passionate about, and in sharing their dreams, their lives and hoping to encourage others to do the same.
Lindsey said: “It’s true that age allows an element of self-confidence but meeting that special person also gives an inner strength that allows you to walk tall. Every LGBTQ+ person has their own coming out story, its individual and personal, and it takes love and support from others to help you through. Every time I see a same sex couple holding hands, I catch myself smiling. A simple act that symbolises so much. We feel that the LGBTQ+ community and its acceptance has come far but we know there is still work to be done. So this Limited Edition Proud bottle is in support of our LGBTQ+ community and those that ally and to show everybody that we are proud to be part of it. If we can help one person be themselves, or open a closed mind to be more accepting, then we are succeeding.”
Lindsey and Rebecca were in no doubt as to which charity they wanted to support with the Limited Edition, donating 5% of the profits from each bottle to Stonewall. Bottles will be on sale throughout Pride season.
Rebecca said: “Stonewall is a national charity that supports the entire LGBTQ+ community, it covers inclusivity within the workplace as well as education and support services for schools and young people. Importantly it pushes for policy change where discrimination and hate crime still exist. It’s important to realise that while our experiences have been mostly positive there is still a large amount of negativity out there and neither of us want to just accept that.”
Lindsey added: “We are a new business and brand so we aren’t in a position to make a huge donation but wanted to do what we can and show our support. We will always help, support and work to shine a light on our community and allies and we will be showcasing the Proud bottle at all our upcoming events, online and with stockists, hoping to spark conversations, questions, acceptance… and PRIDE.”
