Westminster Conversations looks at AIDS Memory UK’s plans for a London memorial to mark the impact of the AIDS epidemic. It is being presented during LGBT History Month and in partnership with the University of Westminster LGBT Forum.

HIV/AIDS has impacted people far beyond the LGBT community, yet many people in the Global North don’t realise how many people die from AIDS every year. Furthermore, over 105,000 people in Britain are living with HIV, and stigmatisation in society, among the general population, continues where the awareness of the nature and effects of HIV/AIDS remains low.

The AIDS memorial recognises that it needs to address, encapsulate, and address this complicated range of memories, resonances, and sensitivities. Ash Kotak, the artistic director of AIDS Memory UK, and Professor Pippa Catterall, the chair of AIDS Memory UK, will talk about the challenges associated with this act of commemoration.

Tickets here.

‘History, Memory and HIV: Why a London AIDS Memorial Matters’ on the 16th February 2023 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Fyvie Hall, University of Westminster, 309 Regent Street London W1B 2HW
