25/02/12: The indomitable social force of London’s hipster scene turned 4 this weekend; and from the local East End to the far South, the boys, girls and keep-‘em–guessing-ers donned their Crinoline dresses, Studio 805 caps, red bows and BOY quarter lengths and came out to play!
The walls of East Bloc – the venue rapidly taking precedence as the Shoreditch regular’s staple dive – were lined with die-hard party people from 11 until the last electro strain at 6 am, with the crowd oscillating between the disco and rave rooms under the wings of host, and jewel of the EC scene, Jonny Woo.
A social, familiar and free-to-be atmosphere, evoking the scene of yore, was in full effect – with cheeky banter and endless introductions spilling out into smoking area and even working their way into the washroom queues.
With a line up comprised of contemporary DJ powerhouses such as WeAreSkitzo, DJ Squeaky, Per QX, Laurent C and Kate Hutchinson, there wasn’t a dry torso or tongue in sight –and with the barmen fielding traffic all night, and the bass-hunters tackling what they came down to do, it was a very happy birthday for all in attendance!
Whether for special occasions, or any given Saturday – this is one gutter a great many of us are hell bent on being found in.
