PRIDE RIDE RUN-DOWN

Later this month, G-A-Y owner Jeremy Joseph and photographer Chris Jepson aim to cycle from London to Manchester to raise vital funds for the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Are they crazy? A little, yes. Here’s why…

To ride from London to Manchester is over 214 miles (or 346 km). That’s more than the average person walks in over two months!

The cycle will take 12 times as long as the average train journey. Maybe we’ll just hop on the Virgin Rail and meet them there.

The entire ride will burn approximately 7,560 calories… the same as having sex for 21 hours, or giving oral sex for over a day-and-a-half. Well, we know which one we’d rather do.

They would have to eat 15 (and-a-half) Big Macs just to replace the energy they burned during the ride. Not that we’d recommend it…

Jeremy and Chris are cycling to raise money for The Elton John AIDs Foundation that has been around for ten years, and has raised well in excess of £100 million for supporting people living with and fighting the spread of HIV and AIDS.

If they were to cycle to Manchester and back again, they would still have burned only a fifth of the calories than a weekend at Madrid Pride. (Actually that’s a guess… but it can’t be too far wrong, surely?)

G-A-Y has reached a whopping 85% of its £250,000 target – if that was applied to the Pride Ride, the duo have averaged £1,000 per mile. And they’ve still got two weeks to go! So, get sponsoring!
