This week’s cover stars are the drop-dead gorgeous Kings Cross Steelers! Why? Well, take a look… we simply couldn’t (and wouldn’t) say ‘no’…
Few can argue that La Voix works hard for the money… and never more-so than when she’s working The Steelers for a bit of on-stage nudity!
Of course my interest in the Steelers is purely trying to encourage young gay guys to actively participate in team sports to encourage health and wellbeing. It’s nothing to do with the fact they are ripped young guys wrestling each other to the ground in tight shorts.
Yeah, right. The thought of rugby boys alone is hot enough without knowing the showers may include some rugger-on-rugger action.
(Wow, I’m getting a hot flush just writing this!)
I first worked with the Steelers in 2004 when I hosted Fruit Machine at Heaven nightclub. The nightclub decided to have La Voix’s Wedding and marry me off to a muscle boy, and the Steelers were my guests of honor. It was held in the middle room on the first floor. God’s honest truth, the room was filled with that many big rugby guys, we had to move downstairs as the floor was giving way! A real ground-breaking group of guys! I was going to suggest we used Rose Garden as a support beam, but she was busy in the toilets.
It was years later back in Heaven when I re-joined the Steelers for their ‘One Night in Heaven’ charity night! From naked balloon dancing to police uniforms and more nudity than I can remember backstage. It was all a bit of a blur, but very enjoyable! (There was another blonde drag queen there, but she was a bit rough looking, I think she was Scottish or something?)
The Black Cap night of judging the Steelers Next Top Model, really showed the men from the boys. I must say, in my time with the Steelers (and unlike Rose Garden) I’m a classy woman, I have never been ‘Slut Dropped’ by so many men in one night. Who knew the Steelers were twerking long before Miley Cyrus? That night consisted of my bags being covered in dripping Baby Oil, boy-on-boy massages and rugby boys wearing the smallest swimwear I’ve ever witnessed. Did I mention it’s a real drag working with them?
Once we managed to get Rose’s posture to look like something under the age of 90 and to stop talking, the shooting of this week’s QX front cover was a hoot. Look closely, the stocking covering the bits of the guy next to me was often discarded between takes… not that I looked, of course.
Over the last few weeks, to help these great lads promote this calendar has been so much fun. Reenacting all the calendar poses live onstage at the Two Brewers was a pleasure! I tried to stop Tom Whitaker taking all his clothes off, but he just insisted on flashing his bubble butt to the world. One thing, which will stay with me forever, is recreating Trisha’s shower picture. Drenching him in ice cold water as he grinded around in pants was a dream. Until he then decided to pin me against the wall of the stage and simulate everything from sex to a blowjob! This would have been more enjoyable had my parents not happened to be visiting that weekend and came to watch the show! Awkward!
The Steelers’ Rob Wykes on their resident ‘President of Vice’, Rose Garden
What can we say about Rose Garden? Rose has been associated with the Steelers for many years, and has helped us so often, that in recognition of her services she has been made a Vice President of the rugby club – although many would argue that President of Vice would be more fitting!
In the last year alone she hosted our critically acclaimed variety show, ‘One Night in Heaven’ and most recently hosted a Steelers 2014 calendar party. She is never shy and always willing to humiliate an unsuspecting Steeler on stage. I remember my first encounter with Rose, within minutes she had me naked on stage in front of 600 people. What happened next is unprintable!
