THE FUNKTION (RELOADED)

The Basement Boyz’ musical iconoclast descends on Dalston

The function of a function is to drink, dance, drop and dabble in debauchery. Well, that’s the function of the functions we go to anyway. It might be a bit different if it were, say, a dinner party at Kirsty Allsopp’s. Actually though she could totally be tempted into a filthy night out in Dalston after a few Irish coffees. She’d be great on Grindr too. Send me your location, location, location.

Anyway speaking of functions, on Saturday 13th the Basement Boyz are bringing their night FUNKTION to Dalston Superstore. In terms of sonorous quality, it’s artisan, it’s bespoke, it’s cooler than YOU. It’s not your run-of-the-mill repetitive Rihanna remixes. It’s an eclectic aural magic carpet ride across a spectrum of genres from soul, funk and disco to acid, Motown and classic R&B.

It’s ultimate trend vibes. It’s the sort of thing that might make M.I.A turn off Antiques Roadshow and actually get off her sofa. Pixie Lott is NOT invited. There’ll be a host of respected industry names lending their inimitable expertise. Hosting are the notorious Lewis G Burton, the totes gorge Chester Hayes and goth grunge princess Madeleine Wood. Then there are Hot Box Djs Vlad & Rory. We’ve never met them but they sound well fit.

And that’s just upstairs! The basement is playing host to Amsterdam legend Fierce Ruling Diva, known for underground house anthem You Gotta Believe. As well as her there’s Rapha Mello, Craig Campbell and hot hairy hunk of man Chris Camplin. Chris Camplin looks like if you crossed Ben Cohen with the Scotts Porridge Oats man, and threw in a leather harness. HYPERVENTILATION-INDUCINGLY HOT.

When we asked organiser Fredi Dimanche what to expect, he told us;

“Club freaks, music geeks and general naughty by nature individuals will find themselves at home. The music is the focus. We encourage you to let yourself go.“

So there you are.

• The Funktion is at Dalston Superstore (117 Kingsland High Street, E8 2PB) on Saturday 13th June, 9pm-3am. £5 advance, MOTD.
