Wimbledon’s getting its first EVER gay bar

Strap on those sweat bands, and swish those pleated skirts, a big dose of GAY is coming to Wimbledon. It’s not just white tennis whites and lush green courts over in this West London district. There’s a major queer community out there who are finally going to get a watering-hole just for them!

With so much doom and gloom in the world, and the closure of queer venues seem to be daily headlines. According ito a report by the University College London Urban Laboratory there were 127 LGBT+ venues that were registered in London back in 2006. Over 10 years later in 2017 there were only 53, marking a 58% loss. Now in 2019, there seems to be a change in the air and they’re popping up all over. Not only are some of our favourite gaybourhoods growing, but completely new ones are taking root.

Say hello to CMYK Bar! Set in the heart of Wimbledon on The Broadway, they’re currently busy setting up for their grand opening next month. The vibe is going to be laid back, a place to unwind while grabbing some signature cocktails, listening to some hot DJ mixes and catch a show or two. It’ll be making the most of the late night licensing over in Wimbledon, open until 3 am Monday through to Saturday (closing at 2:30 am on Sundays).

The Grand Opening

We do love a big opening. On Thursday, the 7th March, they’re opening their doors for the very first time at 8 pm sharp. They’ll be toasting a drink to breaking new ground in Wimbledon, sipping back the first ever drink at the first ever gay bar in Wimbledon. Lisa Q Jones will be the mistress of ceremonies, who’s beign jones by Queen Vanity Nightmare’, ‘Rosé Zinfandel’ and ‘Carmen Getit’, as well as some sickening DJ’s to have the crowds dancing into the early hours of the night. Be sure to head over early and make good use of the free bar (8 pm – 10 pm).
