GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY

Molly Moggs is the small but perfectly formed bar that’s a constant hive of activity. From cabaret to karaoke with plenty of laughs, songs and sozzled souls, this truly is a friendly local boozer in the heart of the West End. We spoke to some of Molly’s starlets about why the place is so fab…

JEFF KRISTIAN

You recently appeared on Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side. How did that all come about and will you be doing it again?

I had done The Salon for Endemol, but they came back to Molly Moggs to find me for BBBotS. I’m doing three next year – ‘Celeb’ in Jan, the civilian summer series then another ‘Celeb’ in August 2013.  My Wednesday and Friday Big Brother appearances fit well in between my Monday and Thursday’s at Molly Moggs!

Tell us your all-time favourite memory from From Molly Moggs?

There are so many… Molly’s is unpredictable, which makes it exciting! I think our annual Armistice Day fundraisers take some beating. People love supporting our Forces boys and girls. My book ‘Where D’Ya Put Yer Willy’? was written around my experiences working at Molly Moggs for eleven years.

What’s your favourite Moggs musical number?

It’s got to be anything by ABBA… I do lots!  Not all visitors speak English, but everyone sings along to ABBA, even the Americans!

COOKIE MOSTAR

What do you love about Molly Moggs?

Everything. It really is my favourite venue to perform in! The audiences are always great and they let me take them on my weird and wonderful comedy journeys. I don’t even know what I’m doing when I step onto that stage – that’s what makes it so magical!

What’s your favourite Molly Moggs memory?

When I used to perform on a Sunday with Julie, someone took their false teeth out and myself and Julie took it in turns to wear them while singing ‘Enough is Enough’… trust me, it really was enough!

JULIE PAID

For those who haven’t been to Molly Moggs for a while, what delights can we expect?

There are a few surprises for you to feast your eyes on! The last year has been a hive of activity as far as decor is concerned, with a complete refurbishment of the exterior from top to bottom and a bit of an ‘updo’ facelift inside, There’s new bar stools, tables and  brand new spotlight for the stage – very theatrical, darling!

The line-up of star artistes has changed somewhat but Jeff Kristian is still pulling them in on a Monday and Thursday night with his brilliant sing-a-long show. Even though he had a brilliant time on Big Brother’s Little Brother, he always made sure he was here for the Molly’s crowd.

You’re surely the beating heart of Molly’s….

I appear regular at Molly’s and really hold dear those who come every week… you know who you are! These eleven years have made me grow in experience, there is nothing like being the landlady of a true British pub. Think of Babs Windsor, ‘Get out of my pub!’ I can be lovely, soft and sweet one minute but if you push her too far, be warned. I’ve been known to grab a herculean bruiser by the throat and throw him into Charing Cross Road for saynig some unsavoury things. Then I’m back on stage like nothing’s gone on!

What’s your favourite Molly memory?

The people. It sounds corny but it’s true, without them who would I be? So a huge big heartfelt ‘thank you’ to them all.

MS ROSIE BEAVER

You recently appeared in Madame JoJo’s tranny talent search – tell us more about that….

I did indeed and it was a hoot! It was a way for me to perfect my skills as an entertainer and work to deadlines. Each week we were given a task on the Tuesday that we then had to incorporate into our performance on the Wednesday, so it was pretty full on, but so much fun! I came second in the whole thing, but as I like to remind people; JLS and One Direction werent winners, but Steve Brookstein was… second will do fine for me.

What’s your favourite memory from Molly Moggs?

That was Julie Paid’s birthday. Cookie MonStar, Diamond Pearl and myself performed songs from Julie’s repertoire. It was absolutely rammed, and Julie had no idea we were doing it. It was also fun to be able to poke fun at the old Dame. God knows there’s plenty of material for that!

• Don’t miss Molly Mogg’s Halloween spooktacular The Frocky Horror Show On Wednesday October 31st, starring Dame Julie Paid, Cookie Monstar, Miss Rosie Beaver and special guests.
