#JULIASAYS…

Is there ever a time when going out to meet friends, catch a show and then dance down a disco starts to lose its charm? Once upon a time, you might have been considered a bit long in the tooth to be jigging around with people half your age, but nowadays I see generations coming together. It’s not how old you are, it’s how old you feel… or words to that effect!

This weekend we’re heading to show-stopping evening Virgin’s Religious Xperience Xtravaganzah on Friday 16th at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. Virgin opens her doors at 8.30 and presents a lineup of spectacular artistes: Katrina Darling a neo-burlesque performer, IMMA who’s creative energy and presence on the scene is out of the ordinary, Ayesha performing a wild west show, Phil Ingud a boylesque performer, Lilly Snatchdragon from The Family Fierce, and of course, Virgin Xtravaganzah herself, and, after all that, DJ music from Tete Bang until 2am.

Up at the Dalston Superstore, things have taken a turn with Douche Bag Superstore on Friday 16th. Join this lot of DJ’s Laurence Del Ray, Mikey XCX and Heidi Heelz playing ‘wonky pop’ all night long upstairs and down from 9 till 3am.

Me, I love a night down the pub… and pubs are not what they used to be. The Queen Adelaide has been using its downstairs space to create new experiences. On Friday 16th September, Snap Crackle Pop present: Some Like It Hot, where from 10pm onwards, they’ll be playing a right old mixture of hits, accompanied by some live percussion till 3am!

And at The Glory this weekend there’s all sorts going on, including star turns from all your faves, cocktails, basement action and sing-a-longs, hosted by Jonny Woo and John Sizzle

It might be London Fashion Week this weekend and there’s some great shows going on, but that won’t be where you’ll see the most outrageous outfits, I’m not kidding, because at the Sink The Pink: Under The Sea ball at The Troxy on Saturday 17th, if you don’t rock up in your dressiest fancy dress, you’ll feel left out! Non-stop shows, dance routines, a walk-off with celeb judges (plus me), and special guest appearance, all on till 4am.

And if you’ve got any energy left, get yourselves down to a Sunday afternoon soirée Panel Talk: North London Fashion where I’m hosting conversation with designer and artist David Holah about style (one of my favourite subjects!) at the Green Rooms Hotel, 13 – 27 Station Road, in Wood Green, where I grew up! Talk at 3.30pm with a collective fashion show The Wanderer in the lobby. greenroomshotel.london for more info.
