All you need to know for the 4th July LGBTQ Party Weekend

All you need to know for the 4th July LGBTQ Party Weekend

With street closures, table seating in bars, and venues offering pre-booking, QX offers a guide to a night out on the 4th of July, with some useful info on how to negotiate the new regulations and make a success of it. But for those of you who can’t get in to a venue, there’s a street party!

Opening all those bars after such a period of absence on a Saturday, in the middle of summer, is a recipe for one hell of a booze-up. As the masses congregate on the beaches and in the city centres, our leader has called on us to Drink for Blighty! Yes, we’re called upon to ¨go to the pub¨, and as there is no entertainment to keep us, how shall we say, entertained – it’s inevitable that everyone will get very jolly indeed.

The following streets will have temporary closures applied to allow drinkers to drink Al Fresco in the street. Old Compton Street, Greek Street, Frith Street, Marshall Street, Dean Street, Bateman Street, Berwick Street, Moor Street, D’Arblay Street, Upper James Street, Upper John Street, Golden Square, Broadwick Street, Poland Street, Marshall Street, Lexington Street, Denman Street, Brewer Street.

Of course, QX is a firm believer in drink aware, but for those of you who might accidentally over-indulge, we thoroughly recommend that you do so in the safety of your local LGBTQ+ venue. While the streets will be full of merry drinkers (we hope), you can be securely cocooned in the safety of a venue with security!

Personally I’d arrive at the venue in a pre-booked taxi, and would also prefer to leave that way. However much of Soho will be pedestrianised. First though, you need to book your table. Here we list the venues that offer booking. Don’t forget table seating is compulsory for all drinkers in all bars. There’s to be no standing around and no rubbing of shoulders, ideally no touching at all once you’re inside. So you’ll need to rehearse your entrance. Sashay to your table, no stumbling, and look like you own the place. Once seated you’ll have limited opportunities to catch an eye more than 1m plus away, so every movement away from your table counts.

Please note: as venues are going contactless make sure you’ve got a credit (or debit) card with you.

Bars in the Stonegate group are offering a downloadable app to order drinks remotely.

Those who can’t get a table will probably find themselves, along with many others, drinking on the street. The weather is set to be warm enough, and hopefully it won’t rain. Check the weather before you venture out and just be prepared for some light rain. It’s London!

So here goes. Venues that we know are open on the 4th July are listed below. We´ll be updating our listings on a day by day basis once things have settled down. Venue managers are trying to sort their venues out in time under very difficult circumstances, and things are changing at the very last minute. Inevitably, there will be a lot of people drinking on the streets, so be safe and sensible, and if you’ve had too much to drink get a cab home.

Finally, dress to impress! Take a couple of masks. The QX snappers will be out in force.
