25/08/12: Halfway to Heaven is without doubt one of our favourite bars in which to indulge in two of our favourite pass times: drag and alcohol!
And when the gals organise a charity event you can bet your bottom dollar that it’ll be done with sheer gusto. Crystal D’Canter, who contributed to the organising of the day, took the reins for the ‘No to Hate Crime’ fundraiser, for anti -hate crime charity Galop.
We pitched up just in time to see the lip-sync goddess that is Mitzi Macintosh, whose ‘hair’ only just managed to fit in the bar. Mitzi’s pacey routines and elaborate costumes really are a joy to behold.
Brummie’s finest, Baga ‘Don’t Talk Shite’ Chipz, was on stonking form too, and had the audience in the palm of her hand with lung-busting vocals and filthy patter, which we love! Never change Ms Chipz; your uniqueness and obsession with Corrie puts a smile on our withered faces.
There were also performances from a plethora (far too many to mention) of the scene’s finest, from Alexis Carrington through to The Bear Did Lady. We love the sense of camaraderie at Halfway as everyone really gets stuck in (regulars too) to make these events work.
The purpose of the day was, of course, raising money and awareness for Galop and Chief Executive, Deborah Gold, delivered an empowered speech highlighting the horrifying statistics of such abuse. Days such as these help Galop to help those who suffer. They are a tiny charity doing a big job.
Angel, the performers and his team delivered a top class day, as always. We love you Halfway. You keep our drag and alcohol addiction very much alive!
