Willam’s World!

Touching down in the UK this month, star of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Season Four, Willam will be bringing his show to West 5 for one night only, and is soooooooo looking forward to it. Jason Reid pinned Willam down this week to talk DWV, Aliens and wig-grabbing… We do love a random interview here at QX.     by Jason Reid

Hi Willam. You’re heading over to London with your meWme show. Can you sum it up for us.

It’s a show with a recently pulled, heavily medicated, drag queen.

What can people expect from your gig at West 5?

Well if they’re coming to the show, they know what they’re getting. They know there’s no refunds.

No refunds at all?

None, no.

[laughs] So in a nutshell, it’s gonna be a fun night?

That’s a possibility.

I’d like to talk a bit about DWV, the group you were formally a part of with Detox and Vicky Vox. Why did you guys split up?

We stopped working together because we didn’t want to work together anymore, and we are all pretty busy with our own shit.

Ok. Do you mind me asking the reason why, specifically?

I don’t mind you asking, but you’re not gonna get an answer.

That’s a shame, I remember seeing you guys perform together at The Meth Lab last year and you rocked it.

Yeah? I’m glad to hear that, because they weren’t even talking to me before that show. We were really good at faking it. Now let’s move on…

Ok, as you wish. More recently, you’ve starred in the new American Apparel music video, with Courtney Act and Alaska 5000. How was that?

That was something I thought was gonna happen with ‘other’ people but it ended up not happening with ‘other’ people. However, It was great, I was very happy to be a part of it. Alaska, Courtney and I have been friends for a while.

It looked like a lot of fun. You’re quite a sexual person, aren’t you?

Ermmmm, no, I think everyone is sexual, I just make a point of not hiding it. If I find good porn, I’m gonna share it with my friends, obviously.

Fair enough. You must have had some crazy sexual encounters? Any that stick out?

There have been a few, like when I got toe fucked and didn’t know about it; I thought I was getting bare backed because all I could feel was skin. Then there was the time when a double-ender got misplaced inside me. That was kinda neat.

I’m assuming you retrieved it eventually?

Yeah, we had a tracker on it.

Hilarious! What are your pet hates?

I really don’t like it when someone tries to grab my wig. I’d rather them grab my ass than my wig.

Yeah, that’s etiquette isn’t it? You should never touch or grab another queen’s wig…

Well, I do it when I wanna be shady.

Ok, but no one can do it to you?

No, they can try, but they’ll get fucking smacked.

I’m sure nobody would dare. So, you get to travel the world, performing in lots of different cities; but which are your favourite places?

I really like LA and Dallas. In fact I love Texas in general. Texas drag is fun. All the people that taught me to do drag live there.

How about in Europe and the rest of the world?

I have a lot of fun in Brighton, actually. It’s really chilled there. Australia, too. I’m about to go there for my fifth time, it’s always a good time.

Random question, but if aliens landed on earth and demanded you describe yourself, what would you say?

I’d tell them to check my fucking twitter.

[laughs] But he’s an alien, what if he doesn’t know how to use Twitter?

He’s an alien, he got to Earth, HE HAS TWITTER.

So what’s coming up in the immediate future for you?

I have an album coming out; I’m working on a new book; I’m thinking about getting an abortion in the Spring; I’m coming out with a line of candles shaped like dildos; I have a movie coming out called ‘Kicking Zombie Ass For Jesus.’ Oh, and I’m touring the world…
